As I mentioned the other day on Flying Meat's blog, Acorn 3.3 is out- even for App Store users.

This release includes some awesome new features:

Retina Canvas- if you have a Retina MacBook Pro, Acorn will provide a 1 to 1 mapping between screen and image pixels. So your images will look super awesome- and currently Acorn is the only image editor available that does this! Besides this new awesomeness, all the icons and other UI elements have been updated as well.

Trim out Selection, which is sort of like the opposite of a crop. If you have a fully vertical or horizontal selection, holding down the option key will turn the Image ▸ Trim to Edges menu item into "Trim out Selection" which will slice out the current selection and squish the two endpoints of your image together

Smart Layer Export- I wrote about this previously, but if you are a screen designer (web, apps, whatever), you're going to love this. Think of it as a different take on slices.

Reselect- do you wish you still had that selection around from 5 minutes ago? You can now choose the Select ▸ Reselect menu item, and Acorn will put your selection back like it was never gone.

You can now scale images for web export, and there are a couple of other interesting new features, as well as a bunch of changes for the better and of course bug fixes. The release notes available if you are curious.

This is also the first version of Acorn to be sandboxed (App Store only). For the most part things work as you expect, but if you had custom scripts that called out to the shell or were used to being able to write just about anywhere on the file system with your scripts… well, those days are gone. HOWEVER- the version of Acorn available directly from us will recognize if you've previously run the App Store version, and will let you run it without providing a registration number. So good news all around!
