(This post is from my old, old, super old site. My views have changed over the years, hopefully my writing has improved, and there is now more than a handful of folks reading my site. Enjoy.)

So it was exactly one month ago today that I got Stevie from the Humane Society. When I got him they said he was 11 months old... so going by that Kirstin and I decided that his birthday is today. Happy Birthday Stevie!

So to celebrate, he decided to do something stupid. As Kirstin was getting out of her VW Bus today with him- he bolted. He then decided to run a bit and jump in front of a car, and get hit. Bummer. I wasn't there but Kirstin tells me he got hit in the shoulder by a car going about 30-35 mph. He then got up and proceeded to bark at the car, and then went to lay down. He must have been in shock.

Kirstin called me from the Humane Society where she took him- when I got there just a little bit later, I walked in the main room to see Stevie just behaving like a normal dog... whining because he couldn't run and jump on the other dogs in the room. The vet eventually saw him, said nothing was broken but gave us some pills because he said Stevie would be sore tomorrow. Stevie is either made of rubber, or just a very lucky dog.

While we were waiting, one of the Vet nurses was telling us a story how a St. Bernard got hit by a vw, and totaled the car. When they brought him into the vet they said they had to get the dog on a stretcher and cary him in (100+ pounds). They set him in one of the rooms and undid the straps that were keeping him down and he just lay there motionless. The Vet came in, pulled out a needle and turned around to the dog- at which point he got up and ran away as fast as he could down the hall.

Dogs... shesh.
