(This post is from my old, old, super old site. My views have changed over the years, hopefully my writing has improved, and there is now more than a handful of folks reading my site. Enjoy.)

I playing around with ligatures earlier today, and showing a really cool one to Mr. Paul Saab (who is now a mac convert, congrats- and you don't really need that 30" monitor by the way, just send it to me...). Anyway, I'll share it with you all.

First, open up your copy of VoodooPad (or, if you haven't bought a copy of VP yet TextEdit will work fine..), change the font to "Zapfino", and crank the font size up to 48, so we can see the details.

Now, type "Zapf". Notice how when you type the final "f", the p and f join. Cool. Now keep on typing to make the word "Zapfino". Neat. That's a really big ligature.

Zapfino

I dig fancy fonts.
