More from Brent Simmons: How to manipulate me.
Lots of good info for getting a developer to do what you want (or at least seriously consider it). I'd say practically everything he writes applies to myself as well.

You know Brent Simmons, I used to like him, he used to be cool, but now he's a Windows guy. Thanks Apple, we've lost another good one because of your senseless actions. How many more will there be?
